Where Nocturya comes from
We made Nocturya because we're absolute fans of letter writing and of discovering the world. Travelling has become a luxury for many people, and some may never get the chance. With Nocturya, you can “travel” from home, discover other horizons and talk with people you would probably never have met otherwise.
A star to carry your letter
On Nocturya, you have your own star. It carries your letter across the sky to someone you don't know. You can send it anywhere in the world or only within your own country. You can also choose the gender of the person who will receive it. The rest is a surprise: you don't know who will read your letter, how old they are or what language they speak.
It flies at the speed of a shooting star
Your letter crosses the sky at thirty kilometres per second, over the real distance between your two countries. But don't worry: it only takes a few minutes to reach your pen pal, and just as long for the reply to come back.
We imagined this journey for a touch of realism: you watch your star shoot across your sky. And at take-off, the wind is drawn at random. Sometimes it pushes, sometimes it slows it down. It's a small unpredictable detail we really like.
It's not a “contest”
There's nothing to win, nobody to follow and no score to beat. Your star crosses the sky to carry your message to someone. You write, then you wait for a reply. You can add a single P.S. to your letter. After that, it's the other person's turn to reply.
You share what you want
You choose your pen name and what you want to show on your profile. You can customise it, answer a few little questions if you feel like it, pick the colour of your star and its mood (YOUR mood), or add photos.
It mattered to us to leave the choice to you: you can stay anonymous if you prefer, or show a little more of yourself if you feel like it. Everyone does what feels right. And above all, we want you to feel “at home” here.
And we look out for you
To be honest, we hesitated for a long time before writing this paragraph. We were afraid it would sound too much like “the police”, which isn't the point at all. But we'd rather be transparent: on an app like Nocturya, you can have wonderful encounters, but also less pleasant ones.
That's why there are rules, gathered in the Sky charter that everyone accepts when they join. If a message or a photo makes you uncomfortable, you can report it. Nocturya is for people over eighteen, but everyone has their own limits and sensitivities, and they deserve to be respected.
What you can expect
Maybe a correspondence that will last for years. Maybe three letters, then nothing. Both happen, and that's normal.
We can't promise you anything, that would be dishonest. The only thing we can promise is to do everything we can to look after the sky and keep making it better.
